Blob Taker privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-11-01. Operator: TECHSSTUFF LLC, support@techsstuff.com.
Short version: Blob Taker works on your device. The pages you visit and the media you save are handled on your device and are never sent to the developer or to any server, and there are no accounts and no analytics. The only data that reaches a server is what is needed to sell and verify a Pro license, described below.
What the extension does with your data
- Pages and media. To find videos and files, the extension runs a small script in the pages you visit. What it sees (blob and stream metadata, the web address of the page and of the frames that hold media, the segments of a video you choose to save and, if you switch on "Prefer highest quality", the playlist files of streaming video, which it shortens before the player reads them) is processed in your browser and temporarily staged in the extension's private storage on your device until the file is saved. It is never sent to the developer or to any server.
- Temporary files. Staged data is deleted as soon as the browser confirms the file was saved. If a recording is interrupted (crash, closed tab, restart) the extension keeps what it recorded and, the next time it starts, finishes it and saves it to your Downloads folder automatically (you may find a file named "Recovered: ..."); if a save fails it keeps the footage so you can save it again or discard it. Anything left behind is deleted after 30 days. Discarding deletes it immediately.
- Private browsing. The extension is not available in incognito windows, because staged data would otherwise be written to your regular profile.
- Settings and inventory. Your settings (for example the memory limit and the sites where capture is paused) are stored in the browser's extension storage. The list of items found on a tab is kept in session storage and cleared when the browser closes. So are the web addresses the extension needs to work: the current address of each open tab (without any username, password or #fragment) and of the frames that hold items it found, so that files can be named after the site and your per-site pause applies. A tab's address is replaced when it opens another page and removed when the tab closes.
- No browsing history list. The extension does not build, keep or upload a list of the sites you visit: it keeps only the current address of each open tab, as described above, and replaces it when the tab opens another page. Nothing about your browsing or the media you capture is ever sent to this server.
Network requests the extension makes
| Request | When | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| License activation, validation and deactivation | when you enter a Pro license key, about once a week afterwards, and when you remove the license | your license key and a random device label (for example blob-taker-ab12cd34ef56), plus your IP address, which is inherent to any web request | this license server (TECHSSTUFF LLC), hosted on Cloudflare |
| Purchase page | only when you click "Get Pro" | nothing from the extension; it opens a page in a new tab that forwards you to the Stripe checkout | this server, then Stripe |
| Ad frame (free version only, and only if enabled in this build) | when the popup is open and you are not Pro | no page or media data; the ad provider sees your IP address and browser details as with any web request and may set its own cookies in the sandboxed frame | the ad provider named in the store listing |
The extension does not load or execute remote code.
What the license server stores
- When you buy Pro: your license key, the email address you gave at checkout, the Stripe checkout session id and payment id, the time of purchase, and whether the license has been disabled (for example after a refund or a payment dispute).
- When you activate Pro on a device: the random device label and activation time for each device that holds one of your seats.
- We use this only to deliver and verify your license, to answer support requests and to disable licenses that were refunded or disputed. We do not sell it, use it for advertising or share it with anyone except the processors named below.
- Payments are processed by Stripe, which acts under its own privacy policy. Your card details are entered on Stripe's page and never reach this server or the extension; this server keeps only the Stripe ids and the purchase time listed above.
- Hosting: the server runs on Cloudflare Workers, which processes requests (including IP addresses) to operate the service and may keep operational logs.
- Retention and deletion: license records are kept for as long as the license exists and as needed for tax, accounting and fraud prevention. Ask support@techsstuff.com to have your record deleted; a deleted license can no longer be activated or re-validated.
Permissions, in plain words
activeTab (record the tab you opened it on), storage (settings, license cache), offscreen (a hidden page that converts and records), downloads (save your files), tabCapture ("Record this tab", only when you press it), unlimitedStorage (stage large recordings on disk), alarms (weekly license check and keeping captures alive). Access to web pages is used only to detect blobs and video streams.
Your choices
Pause capture per site in Settings. Remove all stored data on your device by uninstalling the extension. Pro users see no ads. Deactivating your license on a device frees its seat on the server. Ask support@techsstuff.com for a copy or deletion of the license data we hold about you.
Limited Use
The use of information that Blob Taker handles adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It is used only for the extension's single purpose (saving and recording the media you choose, and selling and verifying a Pro license). It is not sold, not transferred to anyone except the processors named above or as needed to comply with the law, for security, or in a sale of the business, and not used for personalized or interest-based advertising or for credit decisions. Nobody reads the pages or media handled on your device, because none of it reaches us; the operator reads license records only to help you with support, for security, or to comply with the law.
Children, changes, contact
The extension is not directed to children. Material changes to this policy are announced in the store listing and the changelog. Questions: support@techsstuff.com.
